Following a collection of heavyweight dance records, the latest work from Universo is the latest release on the STEP Recordings Label.
In tune with the ethos of Catz ‘N’ Dogz’ STEP Recordings label, the Polish producer Universo, releases his ‘Underworld’ EP – a steady flow of glorious lo-fi that admirers of Baltra, Reno Wurzbacher and The Analog Roland Orchestra will appreciate.
The four track EP begins with ‘Universe’, a deep and hypnotic groove that sets the tone – underlying snare drum paired with intertwining harmonies conjure the pace. The beat hardens with ‘Kora Buta’, as things warm up with tantalising samples and spacey sounds. ‘Sleeper’ sends the listener into just that; distant and wandering piano chords create an intriguing world, one in which you feel yourself drifting into slumber with a fuzzy (almost static) noise being prevalent throughout. The EP finishes with ‘Frequenza’, a soft and steady track glorified with its’ strong kick drum.
The Underworld EP is a firm and solid release, one in which some may find relaxing and absorbing, yet it will not live long in the memory. The overall vibe is certainly moody, yet that mood is very temperamental – and thus, ‘temporary’, quintessentially sums up Universos’ latest work.
